Missy from Wildlife
Rescue, Inc. of Hampstead, MD visited the FCHS in September to talk
about what to do when you find orphaned or injured wildlife and how to
stay safe around them. We met Delilah, an American kestrel (to the left)
and Hook, a red-faced screech owl (below). |

Missy talked to us about how to handle injured or orphaned wildlife and how to practice safety around them. Did you know that 85% of injured owls are hit by cars because they are feeding on roadside litter? Or that kestrels are the smallest member of the falcon family? |

The most important lesson
we learned is to respect wild homes by not littering, and to enjoy the
beauty of wildlife from a distance. We had tons of fun and the kids were
within 10 feet of these magnificent birds! |
