Officer
Tami Stocker from Frederick
County Animal Control visited the FCHS in October to talk about what
she does and to demonstrate how she uses many different tools to catch
stray and injured animals. A kitten (left) that Officer Stocker is fostering
through the Frederick County Animal Shelter won many hearts that day. |
We learned what kind of experience someone who wants to be an Animal Control Officer must have. We also learned how Office Stocker uses restraint poles to keep animals at a safe distance, a "squeeze box" for moving feral or frightened animals gently against the side for easy administration of medicine, and various traps and cages. KINDness Club Leader Mindy Hanlon helped with an animal stretcher demonstration, using Officer Stocker's dog Leyna as the "victim". Leyna was rewarded with a "job well done" by the kids. |

At the end of the presentation,
the kids each had a chance to set a humane trap and even got to sit in
Officer Stocker's Animal Control cruiser! |

The kids had a great time,
heard some funny stories about animal rescues, and learned what it takes
to be an Animal Control Officer. |
