OBEDIENCE Training a Companion Dog
Training is an activity that allows people and their companion dogs to interact
in a manner that makes it possible for all of them to live in harmony with each
other, with everyone's needs met. To promote harmonious, lifelong companion relationships
between people and dogs, the Frederick County Humane Society offers Positive Reinforcement
Training Classes at our facility, at 5712 D Industry Lane in Frederick. Class
Offerings and Schedules The FCHS is pleased to offer a wide array of training
classes taught by professional trainers from Right Start Training. Classes are
one-hour long. Please contact the trainers directly to register for classes and
make payments. Paid pre-registration is required. You will receive confirmation
information before start of class. If the class you have requested has been changed,
filled or cancelled, you will be notified immediately. Upcoming
new sessions are scheduled to start as follows:
Class sessions are six to eight weeks
long. There are usually two weeks between sessions, to accomodate
possible cancellations due to inclement weather or trainer illness.

Class Description:
(classes are limited in size for plenty of individualized attention) Puppy
PreSchool -- This is the best possible way to get your puppy started
with basic training and socialization. Lots of playtime! Puppies between ages
8 to 18 weeks are welcome. Basic Level One, Canine
Etiquette -- Establish a healthy, long-term relationship with your
dog using reward-based techniques. Behaviors taught include sit, down, stay, come,
heel, settle, and lots more. Canine Etiquette also utilizes "clicker" training.
Level Two Advanced -- The next step in
training, including agility, tricks, etc. For dogs who have completed Level One
or Canine Etiquette. Conformation Show Handling (Novice)
-- Covers all facets of Conformation Show Handling. You will learn how to stack,
gait and stand your dog for examination. Perfect start for puppies, young dogs
and inexperienced handlers looking to "get into the sport." Junior
Conformation Show Handling -- Designed for young handlers ages 8 to
18, covers all facets of Conformation Show Handling per description above.
